Crumpets and Tea

Feeling lost after reading Jo Shapcott's Of Mutability... I decide to read it again this morning. Whilst eating crumpets and drinking tea. It still takes me a while to get through the words.  Like something I don't quite understand, I read each line a couple of times.  It's unlike anything I've read before. It leads me one way, then suddenly I'm uneasy and somewhere else entirely. *like telling the dog you're going to the park, then they get out of the car and you're outside the vets*

mu·ta·ble  (myt-bl)
adj.
1.a. Capable of or subject to change or alteration. b. Prone to frequent change; inconstant: mutable weather patterns.
2. Tending to undergo genetic mutation: a mutable organism; a mutable gene.

I read it again, those two stanzas. I think to myself. Now it's all laid bare. I see it from the beginning. The feeling, the nervousness in the words. Beautiful but sharp. Soft and warm yet harsh and real.

I read it again
and again.
